License by State exists because the answer to “does my license transfer?” is scattered across fifty board websites, buried in board minutes and PDF agreements, and usually summarized wrong by whoever is trying to sell you a course.

We assemble the actual rule for every state pair, per trade and level, cite the source, and record when we last checked. We would rather show a gap than guess: states we have not documented yet say so.

For a growing number of states we also document the other half of the decision: what it takes to get the license from scratch. That means the hours, apprenticeship, exams, fees, and renewal rules a first-time applicant faces. If your license will not transfer, that is what you are comparing against.
