Reciprocal agreement with Minnesota (journeyman)
A signed state-to-state agreement. The trade exam is waived; you apply, prove your history, and pay the fee.
Wyoming's Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety lists Minnesota as a state with which it has a reciprocal Journeyman Electrician license agreement. Reciprocation exempts the applicant from the Wyoming exam only, not from Wyoming's licensure requirements. The applicant must have obtained the Minnesota journeyman license by examination with a score of 70% or greater, held it for at least one year from the exam date, be in good standing with no violations, and meet Wyoming's journeyman requirements of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training plus 576 hours of Department of Labor approved apprenticeship schooling; the hours, exam date and score are verified through NERA. The applicant also uploads proof of 16 hours of CEUs (8 code-related) completed within the last three years, and pays the $100 license fee at checkout after approval. A license may be reciprocated into Wyoming only once, anyone who failed a Wyoming exam must wait three years, and grandfathered licenses are not eligible.

Statewide license
Wyoming issues a statewide Journeyman Electrician license through the Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety (the State Fire Marshal's Office); the governor-appointed Electrical Board adopts the licensing rules. To sit for the exam an applicant documents four years (8,000 hours) of work in the electrical wiring industry under a qualifying electrician for a licensed contractor, spread across residential, commercial and industrial work with no more than 75% in one category, plus 576 hours of approved apprenticeship classroom instruction (or 20,000 hours as a licensed electrician in lieu of schooling). The open-book exam is on the current NEC (2023, with the 2026 NEC effective July 1, 2026) and requires 70%. The initial license fee is $100; the license runs three years, expiring January 1, and renews for $50 with 16 hours of board-approved continuing education. Wyoming has journeyman reciprocity agreements with seventeen states and waives its exam for their licensees.
