Moving to Utah as a journeyman HVAC technician: every state's rule

Utah does not issue a journeyman HVAC or HVAC technician license. The Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) licenses journeyman and master electricians and plumbers, but for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration it licenses only the contractor (the H100 HVAC classification, formerly listed as S350), which is issued to a business and qualified by a named individual. HVAC technicians work as employees of a licensed HVAC contractor without any personal state license, so an out-of-state journeyman or technician license has nothing to transfer to and is neither required nor recognized for employment. A journeyman who wants to contract independently must obtain an H100 contractor license (see the master level). Anyone handling refrigerants must hold federal EPA Section 608 certification, which Utah does not administer.
