Moving to Delaware as a master plumber: every state's rule

Supervising experience counts if it was under a Delaware master plumber or under a plumber holding a similar level of license in another state. On the apprenticeship route, only work after the journeyman certificate was issued counts toward the two years; a Delaware Department of Labor program is one example of a qualifying apprenticeship. Experience is proven with the Board's Verification of Employment form completed by each supervisor; if a supervisor cannot be reached you may substitute W-2s or an employer affidavit with a written explanation, and self-employment is shown with Schedule C, all at the Board's discretion. The Master Plumber exam has 100 questions in 3 hours covering general knowledge, isometrics and plan reading, plumbing math, drain, waste and vent systems, water supply and distribution, fixtures and fittings, water heaters, fuel gas systems, storm and roof drainage, and safety; Prov's candidate bulletin lists the 2018 International Plumbing Code, the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code and Plumbing Basics for Contractors as allowed references. The exam can be taken in person in Wilmington, Newark or Dover or online. You may retake a failed exam after 7 days, but after three failed attempts you must wait one year and reapply as a new applicant. A Master Plumber may also install and connect gas piping; work on heating, air conditioning, refrigeration or ventilation systems needs a separate Master HVACR or Master HVACR Restricted license. The Board reviews complete applications at its monthly meeting, and an application must be submitted within six months of starting it in DELPROS. Applicants attest that they have no disciplinary history, pending complaints, drug or alcohol impairment, or conviction for a crime substantially related to plumbing work; the Board can waive the conviction bar after review, but a felony sexual offense conviction is disqualifying.
