If the origin jurisdiction is shown in gray on DOPL's Endorsement to Utah map (no equivalent statewide journeyman license), the applicant must meet Utah's standard qualifications: completion of an approved electrical training program of at least 576 classroom hours plus 8,000 hours as a licensed apprentice, or 16,000 hours as a licensed apprentice. Hours earned outside Utah count, but must be documented on the Verification of Electrician Experience form together with official verification from the jurisdiction where the hours were obtained; local (city or county) licenses may be used to help document hours and exams. The applicant must then pass the Utah Journeyman Electrician Written Exam (75% minimum) and the Utah Electrician Practical Exam, both administered by Prov, and pay DOPL's $116 application fee. New Jersey licensees are asked to document passing exams equivalent to Utah's journeyman exams.

Utah issues a statewide Journeyman Electrician license through the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) under the Utah Construction Trades Licensing Act (Utah Code 58-55) and Rule R156-55b. Utah has no signed state-to-state reciprocity agreements; instead it offers licensure by endorsement under Utah Code 58-1-302 to holders of licenses that DOPL has mapped as equivalent, provided the license has been held at least one year and is active and in good standing. Journeyman endorsement applicants are not required to take a Utah exam. Applicants from jurisdictions without an equivalent statewide license can still count verified out-of-state hours toward the standard route, which requires the Utah Journeyman Electrician Written Exam and the Utah Electrician Practical Exam.

North Carolina does not issue a journeyman electrician license, and no North Carolina city or county issues one either. The Electrical Contractors Licensing Law (G.S. Chapter 87, Article 4) regulates only electrical contracting: the business of installing, maintaining, altering or repairing electrical work, which requires a Limited, Intermediate, Unlimited or Special Restricted electrical contracting license qualified by a listed qualified individual. Electricians below that level work as employees under the supervision of the licensee's qualified individual with no personal license, and the Board's exam handbook and fee schedule contain no journeyman credential. The Board's rules mention 'journeyman electrician' only as a category of primary experience (credited at 100%, 2,000 hours per year) toward the electrical contracting exam. An out-of-state journeyman license therefore has nothing to transfer to in North Carolina; it is neither required nor recognized for employment, but the documented hours behind it count toward the 3,000 (Limited), 5,750 (Intermediate) or 9,000 (Unlimited) hours needed to sit the contractor exam.
