Oklahoma home inspector · “Home Inspector”
Statewide license
Issued by Oklahoma Construction Industries Board, Committee of Home Inspector Examiners
Oklahoma licenses home inspectors statewide even though it licenses no general contractor. The Construction Industries Board's own FAQ lists the trades it regulates as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roofing, building and construction inspectors, and home inspectors, and answers separately that general contractors are not currently required to have a state license in Oklahoma. Home inspection has been a licensed occupation since 1 July 2003: under the Home Inspection Licensing Act no individual may conduct a home inspection for compensation, or hold themselves out as being in the business, without a license, which the Board issues through its Committee of Home Inspector Examiners. There is one tier and no apprentice, associate or trainee grade. The license belongs to the individual and runs for one year at a time, and every licensee keeps a comprehensive general liability policy of at least $50,000 combined single limit with the Board named as certificate holder; Oklahoma asks for no errors and omissions cover at all. Renewal turns on eight clock hours of approved continuing education in the preceding twelve months.
