Oklahoma issues statewide electrical journeyman licenses through the Construction Industries Board (CIB) in three categories: Unlimited, Residential and Refinery. The Unlimited Electrical Journeyman license requires 8,000 verifiable hours as a registered apprentice under a licensed journeyman or contractor while employed by an electrical contractor, of which 4,000 must be commercial/industrial and up to 2,000 may be formal electrical education, plus passing the PSI-administered exam with 70% (59 O.S. §1684). The fee is $75 ($25 application plus $50 initial license) and the PSI exam fee is $92 per portion. CIB has written journeyman reciprocity agreements with ten states, and reciprocal applicants are exempt from the Oklahoma exam. Journeymen must be employed by a licensed contractor and complete 12 hours of continuing education every three years.

The HVAC/R Unlimited category has no size limit; HVAC/R Limited covers cooling up to 25 tons and heating up to 500,000 Btu/h per appliance; both include refrigeration, sheet metal, natural gas and related process piping, and stand-alone Refrigeration, Sheet Metal, Natural Gas Piping and Process Piping journeyman categories also exist. A new applicant needs three years (6,000 hours) of verifiable experience in the category while employed by a licensed mechanical contractor, with approved trade-school hours substituting for up to two years, pays $75 ($25 application plus $50 initial license) and passes the PSI exam with 70% ($92 per portion). Every mechanical firm must have a licensed contractor associated with and responsible for its work. OAC 158:50-9-6 lets CIB sign contractor reciprocity agreements, under which the applicant would still have to pass the Business and Law portion, but CIB publishes no mechanical partner states. Licenses renew annually ($200) with six hours of continuing education every 36 months.
