Moving to Delaware as a master HVAC technician: every state's rule

Supervising experience counts if it was under a Delaware master HVACR or master HVACR restricted licensee, or under someone holding a similar level of license in another state. On the apprenticeship route, only work after the journeyman certificate was issued counts toward the two years. Experience is proven with the Board's Verification of Employment form completed by each supervisor; if a supervisor cannot be reached you may substitute W-2s or an employer affidavit with a written explanation, and self-employment is shown with Schedule C, all at the Board's discretion. The Master HVACR exam has 100 questions in 4 hours covering general knowledge, piping, equipment, system sizing and installation, ventilation and exhaust systems, and testing and inspection; Prov's candidate bulletin lists the reference books allowed in the testing room. You may retake a failed exam after 7 days, but after three failed attempts you must wait one year and reapply as a new applicant. The Master HVACR Restricted license (one specialty such as air conditioning, refrigeration or gas piping) has the same experience rules, its own shorter exam, and only the relevant sections of the By-Pass exam; work on water supply or drainage piping also needs a separate Master Plumber license. The Board reviews complete applications at its monthly meeting, and an application must be submitted within six months of starting it in DELPROS. Applicants attest that they have no disciplinary history, pending complaints, drug or alcohol impairment, or conviction for a crime substantially related to HVACR work; the Board can waive the conviction bar after review.
